Book Review - Wizard For Hire by Obert Skye

My lovely wife got this audiobook from our local library last spring and popped it into the CD player during a road trip. It was a load of fun. What was more funny is that at the same time I was also listening to a series of sermons from my pastor about wise and foolish people. The main character in "Wizard For Hire" could be considered foolish, but that's because living a normal life didn't seem to work for him.

His name used to be Brian, but he changed it when he decided to change his life. Now his name is Labyrinth, but you can call him Rin for short. Rin is a wizard for hire. According to my pastor's sermons, he is a complete fool. He doesn't plan ahead or worry about the future. What's worse is that he does a lot of stupid things, however that does make him an awful lot of fun to be around. On the upside, Rin is extremely lucky.

I'm a WizardRin's story starts when he places an advertisement in the local paper. He promotes himself as a wizard for hire. The story really gets interesting when a young boy named Ozzy decides to hire Rin for his wizarding services. You see Ozzy is an only child who has been alone for a while, without parents. He's been afraid of adventuring out into the world for many years, but now he's taking small steps to investigate. He's hoping to find his parents. I'll admit, Ozzy's trauma is depressing, but the book gets really engaging once he hires Rin.

Together, Ozzy and Rin search for Ozzie's parents through an assortment of mishaps and run-ins with the local law enforcement. The local police are alerted about Ozzy because he appears to be an underage boy who is living without parents. The police really want to help, but neither Ozzy nor Rin want their help. The two are afraid that the officers will get in the way and cause problems, which could easily be true because Ozzy is an orphan. His parents were kidnapped many years ago.

SorcerorSo who are the bad guys that kidnapped Ozzy's parents? Is Ozzy safe to go out in public? Can Rin really help? Over and over this pair of interesting characters run into problems that will have you on the edge of your seat, or laughing on the floor.

Obert Skye, the author of "Wizard For Hire" is very good at crafting interesting characters. Ozzy, Rin, a robotic bird named Clark and an unlikely friend named Izzy keep the story engaging because they are all interesting characters. They make life fun, they care for each other and they're off on a bigger-than-life journey in "Wizard For Hire". I highly recommend that you read it! It's a fun book and your whole family will love it!
