My family and I recently enjoyed a short camping trip on the beaches near Destin Florida. During our break, we visited one of my favorite Biblical Creation teachers, Dr. Kent Hovind, at his Dinosaur Adventure Land in Lenox Alabama. That's about an hour north of Pensacola Florida.
Dr. Hovind is an amazing resource for Biblical Creation study because much of his stuff is available online for free. Years ago he would sell copies of his Creation seminar, but promote that copies could be made to be freely shared with friends and families. People shared it everywhere.
If you know where to look you can find printed material, video and audio from his seminars. You're not able to resell it, but you're welcome to share it. His seminar is available today on YouTube. Here’s a link to the first video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=shyI-aQaXD0
In April of 2018 Dr. Hovind opened the doors to Dinosaur Adventure Land. Amazingly, there’s no charge to tour the park. They’ll even consider letting you stay the night in your camper, however they’d like a little notification in case they're already booked. I highly recommend stopping in for a tour. Since it's free, you might even consider purchasing some study materials or merchandise from Dr. Hovind's store!
Dinosaur Adventure Land includes a tour that starts in a small creation museum. (Anna was our tour guide. She's been a volunteer there for a couple years and hopes to create a similar Creation museum in her hometown.) Dr. Hovind's museum has a ton of stuff to look at. Anna explained a portion of them, we’d probably be there all day if she explained everything. She even showed us a couple scientific experiments, which the kids really enjoyed. All of the science experiments then have a Biblical perspective to show how God works in our lives.
After the tour through the museum, Dr. Hovind led us on a tour through the property. We loaded up into a motorized Mule, donated by a patron, and explored a portion of their 300+ acres. The grounds include a man made lake, a zip line, plenty of spots to go fishing, a gazebo and a large area of sand dunes where you can lay down at night to look up at the stars.
Dr. Hovind loves science, so his tour includes a variety of stops to see how science applies to nature. There are even a couple experiments including his famous paper airplane launch and the long distance rubber band shoot.
One of the things I enjoy most is Dr. Hovind's Bible study. Each night he's there, a Bible study is streamed live to his YouTube channel at http://bit.ly/drdinoyoutube. We missed the study during our recent visit, but my son and I were able to attend a couple years ago while there to help with construction of the park. Dr. Hovind is very knowledgable about the Bible and Creation and I believe you'll really enjoy his Bible study times.
All in all, our visit lasted about three hours. That included some time just walking around so the kids could play in the playground and some time exploring the store so we could get some t-shirts to remember our time. I suppose you could visit and stay there for a shorter time if you're in a hurry, but the combined tour length probably takes at least two hours.
If you are ever Florida-bound and traveling through Alabama, stop by Dr. Hovind's Dinosaur Adventure Land in Lenox Alabama. Dr. Hovind is a wonderful guy and I bet you and your family will learn some fun stuff!
Ben Russell is author of "Noah Drake And The Dragon Killer". He writes Juvenile/Middle Grade Fiction Adventures. He's not a scientist or a doctor of history; he's just a guy that's interested in those subjects. He's very interested in creation. His inner child gets excited about dinosaurs and the idea that they're not millions of years old. He despises the theory of evolution, believing it's a stumbling block to the Christian faith. Ben is a family man. He and his lovely wife have four happy kids and they make their home among the roaming hills of the Missouri Ozarks.
