Blog - God called us to be fruitful

When I wrote the first book in the Noah Drake middle grade series, I felt I was being led by the Lord to do it. I had never written a book before, so being an author was totally new to me.  But inspiration came because I was at a vulnerable crossroads in life.

My wife and I were actively searching my life's direction and we turned to an amazing man of God, an author named Dan Miller. His resources caused us to consider work as an author and speaker. But what would I write and talk about?

2015 - The Russell family just getting started at the parkThat answer came while we were on vacation at Disney's Epcot. We rode on the Universe of Energy ride, a form of edutainment which taught about the big bang and how we were created from nothing.  This ride really brought home the teaching that man evolved without God. We are all wonderful creations, but we just came to be by chance, not design.

Then my family rode the giant golfball at Epcot. The ride told how it took man 50-thousand years before we could talk with each other.  Really? In reality, I’m glad God made it so easy and just created us. I can’t imagine having to wait 50-thousand years to tell my wife and kids that I loved them.

I grew frustrated that day. I enjoyed the theme park, but everywhere we turned our kids learned the world’s viewpoint on science. We were taught that man didn’t have much meaning. Sure we’re amazing, but the world thinks we're just some random thing that happened.

"Why don't you?"I voiced my frustration in a quiet comment to God. You could say it was a prayer of sorts. I told God, “Somebody needs to do something about this.” What I meant was somebody needs to teach our kids about the possibility of a young earth and how man was created by God. I distinctly heard in my spirit God’s answer, “Why don’t you?”

That was it. I said okay and the inspiration for Noah Drake And The Dragon Killer began to form.  The book would teach about Biblical Creation. It would share evidences or proofs that supported a world created by God, and it would be geared towards middle grade kids. (That’s how old my two boys were at the time.)

Yup, I was scaredAs I wrote the book, God kept leading me to do something else with the story. He wanted me to teach about salvation. Call me silly, but I was scared to teach about salvation in a kids book. For some reason I was fearful that it wouldn't be received well by readers. But my respect for God won over. That’s what God wanted me to do, so I did it.

In Noah Drake 1 I created a situation where one of the characters got saved. It’s a subtle story line, but it becomes the finale’. I really believe the book is a much better read because of this man’s story and his journey towards God.

So let me ask you something, what has God called you to do? What has He asked from you? I know I'm not the only one who's scared of doing what The Lord wants.  What are you scared of? Listen, God is the giver of wisdom. He’s our best friend and He's our father. If you don’t know why you’re here, ask Him. He’ll tell you.

Jesus will say, "That's enough"We’re not getting any younger here. Plus you have to admit, it sure seems like we’re living in the end times for this current world's system. At some point, Jesus is going to say, "That’s enough sin and selfishness in the world." He’ll come and take us to Heaven. Our earthly human journey will be done and we’ll start a heavenly eternity.

If you’re saved, that will be a great day. BUT, our ability to help others to join us in Heaven will be over. Our work day will be over and we’ll go to rest. Will you have any regrets? Will you have done all you can do to serve The Lord? When the Lord tells you “well done,” will you feel in your heart that you had done everything you could?

I once thought about writing a book for those people that will be left behind after the rapture. A testimony and Bible journey to help them come to salvation. It's going to be tougher for people to come to salvation after the rapture. The Holy Spirit will no longer be here. Our voice of witness will be gone since we're in heaven. How can they join us? I know anything is possible with God, but I'd like to help them (and Him) if possible. The perfect inspiration for that book hasn’t come yet, so the job is still a thought, but it’s there.

Do something for yourself. Take some time to do some soul searching. Step out of the mundane rat race routine and analyze your life. Are you happy? Is there anything you can do to help God? What can you do? Are there talents you can use that have been untapped for years?

God made you with those talents. He made you with that calling. Go out there and use it. Lift people up, edify them, and tell them God loves them. Show them how our Father has better things for us. And then when we meet in heaven, pull me aside sometime and tell me all about it!  I'll be so glad to learn what you were able to accomplish!
