I was raised in a Catholic grade school through 7th grade. I moved to a public school from 8th through 12th grade.  Half of my college education was in a state school and half of it was in a small private Baptist school.  Out of that variety of circumstances, I developed a faith in evolution and a faith in God.  Somehow I was able to pull the two things together and live with them harmoniously.  I even found "Christian" principles that seemed to explain how evolution "fit" with creation and the Bible.  But as I grew older, I stumbled onto things that caused me to question my foundation of beliefs.

Today I feel like a heretic when I share my thoughts about creation with others. I expect people to respond to me, saying "Seriously Ben, you believe in a 6 day creation?!  Like, 6 actual 24-hour days?!" The thing is, yes, I do.  At least now I do.  After all, that's what the Bible says.  It takes well studied men to look at the Bible and misinterpret the words for the average reader.  They tell us "You see, it doesn't actually mean 6 days, when it says 6 days.  Jesus didn't actually heal the thousands of people, it just says that.  There wasn't actually a world-wide flood, it was probably a local flood."

Really?  Breathing Fire? Blog -

It's the year 952 B.C. A rugged looking man is cleaning up the supplies on his fishing boat in a harbor. He looks up, sees you standing there and gives a wave. "Did we catch anything? Lord, yes. We brought in a good catch today. It was a rough one though. We even had a brush with Leviathan during the morning hours. What? Don't tell me you've never heard of Leviathan. Le - Vie - Eh - Thin? He's that old, ugly fire breathing thing that lives in the Mediterranean Sea.  He has eyes that glow like the morning sun and his breath is so hot it can boil the sea!  Thank goodness we weren't taking a morning swim!

He doesn't bug us much though.  As long as we leave him alone, he usually leaves us alone.  Levi just kind of scares you when you see him, he's so large.  Oh, sorry, we nicknamed him Levi.  It's easier to say, plus he reminds us of the Levites, the Jewish priests at the temple. They start preaching hell's fire and brimstone and you could swear they're breathing fire too!

Stay away from old Levi if you can, he's pretty dangerous.  Oh sure, he makes a spectacular display every Fourth of July and New Year's Eve, but you leave that to the professionals.  Its a risky business and they know how to handle him.  I'd stay away.

How realistic is it for a creature to be able to breath fire? In all of creation, is there anything that can do that? Unfortunately, none come to mind except those in legend and history. But lets ignore the history, because some people don't believe it. Let's say that a fire-breathing leviathan is only a legend. If that were the case, are there any animals alive today that have amazing talents like breathing fire? Yes, there are.

A Hungry Interest In Dragons Blog -

One of the leaders in homeschool curriculum is Ken Ham and the Answers In Genesis organization.  I was very doubtful of their ideas the first time I sat in one of their classes at our annual homeschool convention.  I respected their input, because it seemed to be without problem, but I was still sold on what I learned in school: the earth is millions of years old.  The problem is that Answers In Genesis (AIG) gives you so much evidence that it's hard to believe what you were taught in a government school!

Even more curious, the more I look into their stuff, the more excited I become about the potential for what they teach.  The little boy within me has risen up, the one that wants to know more about dinosaurs and discoveries.  You see, AIG likes to teach from a historical perspective along with the scientific perspective.  What I mean is they teach the history of creation and also the history of how science views it.

Creationism IS intellectually credible Blog -

The question has been raised: Is creationism credible? I can answer with a resounding YES over the Ozark Mountains, it IS credible! It's also historically accurate.  Only in recent years did society decide we're too smart to follow the historic relevance to the subject matter.

Creationism can be hard to grasp because public schools don't teach an alternative to evolution.  As a young man, I tried to combine my Christian faith with a theory of Evolution.  I considered God could have made the universe millions of years ago and things develop from there.  Many Christians still mix theologies that way.  But more and more resources are becoming available that show how a historical view is more accurate. It took me some time, but I have been sold on the idea that the earth and all that was created in it is about 6,000 years old, just like the Bible says.
